GLENSIDE, Pa. – The No. 18 Albright women's basketball team moved to 2-0 in MAC Commonwealth play with its second straight conference road victory, defeating Arcadia, 83-60, on Saturday afternoon.
Nina Mazzarelli led all scorers with 20 points. She added eight rebounds, tying teammate
Alysha Lofton for the game high in that category.
The Lions (5-1, 2-0) scored their most points in a game on the young season with 83 by also setting season highs with 30 field goals and nine made three pointers. Albright made three of those three pointers in the first quarter with two coming from
Shannon Thomas. The Lions took a 25-20 lead after the first. Thomas finished with 13 points, all in the first half.
Albright pushed its lead into double figures in the second quarter. The Lions outscored Arcadia, 20-9, in the second quarter while shooting 52.9 percent to Arcadia's 23.1 percent. At the half, Albright held a 45-29 lead.
Mazzarelli and
MiKayla Lea each scored six points in the third quarter as Albright again extended its lead on the strength of its 53.8 shooting percentage in the period. Lea finished with 12 points, four rebounds and two steals. Albright led, 64-41, after three quarters.
Devan Horka was the fourth Lion to finish in double figures, finishing with 10 points and four rebounds. Lofton had eight points and three steals to go with her eight rebounds.
Albright returns home to face Widener in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
