READING, Pa. – The Albright men's basketball team got 16 points from DeJuan Smith and 11 points from Brandon Lindsay, but the Lions fell to Gettysburg 68-61 on the final day of the Crowne Plaza Holiday Tournament at the Bollman Center.
The Lions trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half before rallying to tie the game at 38 in the second. The Bullets then took control of the pace of the game and pulled away to win the consolation game.
A pair of free throws from Jared Rappoport capped Albright's second half comeback with 9:44 remaining on the clock. Tanner Kirkpatrick and Cody Kiefer teamed up to regain Gettysburg's lead as the pair scored eight straight points to put the Bullets up 49-40.
Smith made it a two-possession game at 59-53 with 1:05 left to play after draining one of two free throw attempts. Lindsay tried to fuel an Albright comeback scoring six points in 13 seconds, but the Bullets would make nine of their 10 free throws in the final minute to secure the victory.
Fred Rowles added nine points, five rebounds, and a team-high two assists for the Lions, while Jayson Clark finished with eight points. Garrett Oplinger recorded a team-high six rebounds in 20 minutes of action.
New Jersey City defeated Misericordia 87-72 in the championship game. Jalen Harris of NJCU was named the Tournament MVP, while five players were selected to the All-Tournament Team. Albright's own Rowles earned the honor along with Kirkpatrick of Gettysburg and Ata Robinson of NJCU. Tre Fields and Jason Kenny of Misericordia were also named to the team.
The Lions return to action on Wednesday at 8 p.m. when they host Hood in conference play.
