Men’s Hoops Stays Unbeaten in Conference Play

READING, Pa. – The Albright men's basketball team hit 10 three pointers in the first half of its MAC Commonwealth game against Widener on Wednesday night on its way to a 77-69 victory over the Pride. With the win, the Lions improve to 3-0 in conference play.

Omari Ringgold hit three of his four three pointers in the first half on his way to posting a game-high 19 points. Ringgold, Fred Rowles and Jaylin Calloway sparked the Lions to four consecutive scoring possessions with a three pointer just after the halfway mark of the first half. Calloway's three with 5:44 to play gave Albright a 36-25 lead. Rowles had 13 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Ringgold's third three of the half established a new biggest lead for the Lions in the first half, giving Albright a 41-27 lead with just under four minutes to play. Albright led, 48-38, at halftime.

Widener managed to cut the lead to five early in the second half and to six points on several occasions throughout the half, but the Pride couldn't pull to within a single possession. After Widener made it 64-58 with 6:48 left, Calvert Gantz responded with a jumper at the other end on the next possession to rebuild Albright's eight-point lead. Gantz finished with five points, eight rebounds and four blocks.

Widener had it again to six points with 2:35 left, but DeJuan Smith converted two free throws on the Lions' next trip. Smith finished with 15 points and six rebounds.

Ringgold added three steals to lead the Lions. Damon Stern tied Rowles with a team-high four assists.

Albright heads back out of conference when it travels to Franklin and Marshall on Saturday at 3 p.m.
