Lions Open MAC Commonwealth Play Versus Lebanon Valley

READING, Pa. -- Stephanie Pomante and Regina Milburn each recorded three hits, but Albright dropped a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader to Lebanon Valley on Thursday at the Albright Softball Field.

Lebanon Valley won game one 5-0 and completed the sweep by holding off the Lions for a 4-3 win in game two.

Pomante was 3-for-6 in the doubleheader and scored a run, while Milburn went 3-for-7 in the two games and scored two runs and drove in a run.

Sammi O'Connor pitched a complete game in both contests and worked a combined 14 innings and allowed eight earned runs and struck out nine batters.

Lebanon Valley, which improved to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in MAC Commonwealth play, rode the pitching arm of Haley Neff to a win in game one and the bat of Emily Johnson to the game-two victory.

Neff went the distance in the opener and permitted just three hits and struck out four batters in notching the shutout.

Kelly Cembrale, Pomante and Stephany Courtney all recorded base hits for the Lions in game one.

Johnson was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI to lead the Dutchmen to a 4-3 victory in game two.

Albright, which dropped to 12-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play, was held off the board until breaking through in the sixth inning.

Milburn began the Lions sixth inning with a hard single up the middle and she advanced to second when Courtney followed with a single to left. Sera Stull advanced both runners when she grounded out to first base.

Jordan Chell produced the Lions first run of the doubleheader when she grounded out to short, which brought home Milburn to cut the lead to 4-1. The Lions threatened for more when they loaded the bases, but the side was retired on a sharp line drive to shortstop.

In the seventh inning, Pomante doubled to left with one out and came home to score when Milburn singled to center to trim the lead to 4-2.

Milburn, who had moved up to second base on a LVC fielding error, advanced to third when Courtney grounded out. Stull then ripped a double to left center scoring Milburn and bringing the Lions to within 4-3.

Haley Christensen, who came on in relief of Lebanon Valley starter Alexa Windsor, got the final out on a fly ball to escape any further damage.

Milburn had three hits in game two to pace the Lions, while Courtney recorded a pair of hits. O'Connor and Stull also had base hits for the Lions in the second game.

Albright returns to action on Saturday (March 26) when it hosts Penn State Abington for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at the Albright Softball Field.
