READING, Pa. -- Alvernia broke open a tight second game with a 10-run fifth inning on its way to a 12-3 victory over Albright to spoil the Lions Senior Day on Saturday at Kelchner Field.
Alvernia won the opener 11-0 and completed the sweep with the 12-3 victory in the second game.
Saturday was Senior Day for Albright's
Julian Cimino,
Brandon Triantos,
Doug Franks and
Dylan Price. Cimino picked up a hit on the day, while Triantos had three hits in the doubleheader. Franks started game one for the Lions and Price started the second game.
Alvernia, which improved to 25-12 overall and 15-3 in conference play, had 26 hits in the two games led by Dillon Dunne and Ian Shaffer who each had four hits. The Crusaders got a pair of solid outings from their two starting pitchers as Thomas Malik allowed no runs in six innings of game one, while John Catchmark allowed one earned run in five innings of the second game.
Albright, which dropped to 5-26 overall and 1-17 in conference play, fell behind 9-0 after three innings in the opener.
Noah Beebe and Triantos had two hits each to lead the Lions, while
Jeff Yordy and
Zach Krause also had hits.
Alvernia took a 2-0 lead after two innings of the second game before the Lions fought back.
Yordy hit a one-out double to start the Lions rally in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, Beebe lined a single to left to bring home Yordy and cut the lead to 2-1.
Alvernia took advantage of six Albright walks in the fifth inning to push across 10 runs to extend the lead to 12-1.
Albright cut the lead to 12-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning with a pair of runs, but could get no closer.
Austin Roth went 3-for-3 in game two, while
Micah Storms and Beebe each had two hits. Yordy, Cimino,
Tanner Brescancine, Krause,
Jesse Fikslin and Triantos all had hits for Albright. The Lions banged out 13 hits in game two, but left 11 runners on base.
Albright returns to action on Tuesday (April 26) when it visits Penn State Harrisburg for a non-conference game beginning at 4 p.m.
