READING, Pa. -- Sophomore
Drew Lewis pitched four strong innings for Albright, but Kutztown rallied to defeat Albright 4-3 in the season finale for the Lions on Monday at FirstEngergy Stadium.
Lewis started for Albright and went 4.0 innings and allowed just one hit and one uneared run while striking out two batters.
Kutztown rallied to take the lead with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and then held off the Lions the rest of the way. The game was halted after eight innings due to lightning in the area.
Micah Storms,
Noah Beebe and
Tanner Brescancine drove in the Albright runs for the night, while
Jeff Yordy, Brescancine, Keller,
Doug Franks and
Brandon Triantos each collected hits for Albright.
Kutztown, which improved to 20-31 on the season, took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Joe Santospago, who reached on an Albright throwing error, scored from third on an RBI groundout by Bo Rottet.
Albright, which concluded the season with a 5-30 record, rallied to tie the game in the top of the fourth inning. Storms and
Julian Cimino drew walks to lead off the inning, but Storms was forced out at third base on a ground ball by Brescancine. Keller then lined a two-out single to right scoring Cimino and tying the contest at 1-1.
Albright took the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning.
The Lions loaded the bases with no outs when
Kyle Gantert walked and Triantos and Yordy reached on infield bunt singles. Storms reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Gantert to score and gave Albright a 2-1 lead.
Beebe followed with another RBI groundout that brought home Triantos and upped the Albright lead to 3-1.
Kutztown cut the lead to 3-2 with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning and took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Bears scored their runs on an Albright fielding error and a sacrifice fly.
