READING, Pa. -- The Albright field hockey team rode goals from
Kasey Neiderer and
Tracy Snyder and the goaltending of
Aileen Taylor to a 2-0 victory over Delaware Valley to open the 2016 season on Thursday at Shirk Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, Neiderer broke through for the first goal of the game. Neiderer gathered in a rebound off a shot from Snyder and fired it past Rosie Bishop to give the Lions a 1-0 lead at the 48:39 mark of the second half.
Snyder then upped the Albright lead to 2-0 when she beat Bishop through a maze of players at the 63:44 mark of the second.
Taylor, who was a First Team All-MAC Commonwealth selection a year ago, faced only six shots but made two saves including a lunging stop on a shot by Samantha Collyer.
Carly Hollinger also made a key defensive stop for the Lions in the first half. After Taylor made a save, Delaware Valley had a clean look at the goal but Hollinger stepped in to make the defensive save to keep the game scoreless.
Albright controlled the play by outshooting the Aggies 13-6 and holding a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Albright, which improved to 1-0 on the season, will return to action on Sept. 7 when it travels to DeSales for a non-conference game.
