Strong Second Half Pushes Lions to a 3-2 Victory

CENTER VALLEY, Pa – The Albright field hockey team rallied to beat DeSales 3-2 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.  The Lions used two second-half goals to overcome a 2-1 halftime deficit to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Albright applied pressure from the opening whistle, earning two penalty corners in the first three minutes of play. The Bulldogs were the first team to get on the board, however, when Kylie Honnick-Payne scored in the 10th minute to give DeSales the early lead.

The Lions continued to control play, earning two more corners, and finally found the equalizer when junior Tracy Snyder scored off her own rebound in the 17th minute.  The goal was Snyder's second of 2016.

The host Bulldogs regained the lead in the 28th minute, when Honnick-Payne notched her second goal of the game off a DeSales penalty corner. Albright had four shots and two corners in the final minutes of the half but could not convert and trailed 2-1 at the break.

The Lions tied the game at two 10 minutes into the second half. Senior Kendra Delgado scored on a penalty stroke for her first goal of the season.  Sophomore Annette Helmandollar gave Albright the lead in the 51st minute, scoring her first goal of the season off an assist from junior Amanda Long to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Lions. Albright made that lead stand up, holding the Bulldogs without a shot over the final 19 minutes to finish off the victory.

Albright out shot DeSales 21-10 in the contest, and totaled 14 penalty corners to just five for the Bulldogs.  Sophomore goalie Aileen Taylor had four saves in net for the Lions.

Albright will return to action this Friday when it hosts Eastern University at 6:00 in Shirk Stadium.
