Lions Can't Survive Second Half Push, Lose 2-0

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Eastern Mennonite scored two late goals to defeat Albright 2-0 in men's soccer action Saturday afternoon.   The loss puts Albright at 2-4-1 on the season, while EMU improves to 5-1-2.

Both sides had chances to score in the opening 45 minutes, but neither club could find the back of the net.  The Royals out shot Albright 9-4 in the half, but freshman keeper Billy Mullen made five saves to keep EMU off the board.

Eastern Mennonite picked up the pressure in the opening minutes of the second half, but again the Lion defense was up to the task.  Mullen had a pair of saves and another Monarch shot hit the crossbar to keep the game scoreless.  The Monarchs broke the deadlock in the 79th minute, when Parker Leap scored off an assist from Juan Luna to give EMU the 1-0 lead.

Albright nearly tied the game in the 84th minute, but freshman Antonios Araviakis' shot was blocked off the goal line by a Monarch defender to keep the score 1-0.  Three minutes later EMU scored its second goal when Luna scored, assisted by Leap, for a 2-0 Monarch lead that would prove to be the final margin of victory.

Mullen finished the night with a season-high 10 saves in goal for the Lions.

The Lions will look to get back in the win column Wednesday night when they travel to Cabrini for a non-conference match.  Game time is scheduled for 6:30.
