READING, Pa. – Alysha Lofton scored 17 points and pulled down 15 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season as the Albright women's basketball team defeated Lycoming, 63-50, on Wednesday night. With the win, the Lions move to 11-3 overall and 6-0 in MAC Commonwealth play.
Albright held Lycoming (9-6, 3-4) to just 26.7 percent shooting from the field, and that included the Warriors going just 2-for-15 from the floor in the first quarter. Albright held a 16-8 lead after the first quarter, and that lead ballooned to as many as 19 points in the second.
After allowing Lycoming to score the first basket of the second quarter, the Lions rattled off 13 consecutive points.
Jane Joyce scored six of the points on that run as she finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Lycoming scored the last four points of the period to head into halftime trailing, 31-16.
Lycoming outscored Albright by two in the second half, but the Lions' lead stayed mostly in double figures and was never fewer than eight points. Lycoming cut the lead to 50-42 with 5:48 remaining in the contest, but Albright responded with a 7-2 run over the next two-plus minutes to restore a 13-point advantage.
Lofton had five assists, five blocks and three steals to go with her double-digit scoring and rebounding numbers.
Devan Horka joined Lofton and Joyce in double figures, finishing with 12 points and six rebounds.
Shannon Thomas had eight points and five rebounds, and
MiKayla Lea had eight points, six boards and four steals off the bench.
Nina Mazzarelli had six points and seven rebounds.
Albright outrebounded Lycoming, 48-35.
The Lions are back in action on Saturday at Messiah. Tip is scheduled for 3 p.m.
