GRANTHAM, Pa. – Calvert Gantz already holds Albright's single-game blocks record with 10 in a game, and he now has the third-most blocks in a game after his performance in Saturday's 73-53 loss at Messiah. Gantz finished the day with seven rejections. On the offensive side,
Brandon Lindsay led the team with 10 points.
Gantz had four of his blocks along with five of his six rebounds in the first half, but Messiah took a 39-24 lead at halftime. An 8-0 Messiah run midway through the first half gave the Falcons a 23-9 lead with 8:53 left. Three pointers by
Damon Stern and
Jaylin Calloway along with a Brandon Lindsey three-point play cut the lead to 25-18 with 7:24 left.
Messiah responded with a 14-4 run to take a 39-22 lead with less than a minute to play in the half for its largest lead to that point.
In the second half,
Fred Rowles hit a bucket and
DeJuan Smith scored four in a row to cut the Messiah lead back to 11 points, 43-32, with 15:08 left. Messiah again pushed back, this time with a 13-0 run to make it 56-32 before Lindsay hit a three to stop the run with 10:12 to play.
The seven blocks from Gantz places him third on the school's single-game list. He holds the school record with 10 against York (Pa.) in 2014.
Eleven different Lions scored in the game. Rowles had nine points while Smith finished with seven.
Albright returns home to face Alvernia on Wednesday night at 8 p.m.
