Men’s Hoops Comeback Stuns Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. – When Lebanon Valley's Will Boccanfuso completed a three-point play with a free throw to give the Dutchmen a 68-58 lead with 2:50 to play, it looked as though the Albright men's basketball team was staring its first MAC Commonwealth loss in the eye. Instead, the Lions scored the game's final 12 points to pull out a 70-68 win. Albright is now 7-7 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

DeJuan Smith and Calvert Gantz has buckets to make it 68-62 with 2:15 to play. Fred Rowles gathered an offensive rebound and made two free throws to cut it to 68-64 with 1:35 left. Jayson Clark hit a layup on the break to make it 68-66 with 1:02 remaining. Smith tied the score at 68 on a layup after he made a steal with 50 seconds to play.

As it had throughout the run, the Lions defense forced a miss on Lebanon Valley's next possession. The Dutchmen missed their final five shots from the field, and that gave the ball back to Albright with the shot clock off. Smith's jumper with less than five seconds left was off the mark, but Clark pulled in the offensive rebound and was fouled with 0.6 seconds to play. Clark made both free throws to give the Lions a 70-68 lead. A home run pass led to a desperation layup at the buzzer for Lebanon Valley, but it was no good.

The Lions came back after trailing by as many as 10 points in both halves. Albright had the deficit cut to 35-29 at halftime, but the Dutchmen pushed it back to 10 points in the second half before the Lions' big comeback before the buzzer.

Smith poured in a game-high 28 points. Rowles had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Omari Ringgold added 13 points while Clark finished with 10 points.

Albright returns to action when it hosts Lycoming on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
