Late Goal Lifts Women's Soccer to 1-0 win over PSU Berks

READING, Pa. – Senior Crissy Terraces broke a scoreless tie in the 84th minute to lead the Albright Lions women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over local rival Penn State Berks in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Lions have now won three-straight while improving to 8-5-1 overall and holding their 2-1-1 record in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Nittany Lions fall to 6-5-1 overall.

Both offenses started rather quiet for the game as there were a combined two shots from both teams in the first 20 minutes of the game. Albright nearly got on the board on a direct kick from 20 yards out from senior Emily Saxon that went just high in the 11th minute. The Nittany Lions began to gain steam as the half went along, and nearly scored in the 30th minute off an open shot from Caitlin Golden that just missed the back of the net. Penn State Berks held a slight 4-3 shot advantage after one.

The Nittany Lions had two chances from Golden blocked early in the second half before Albright nearly broke the scoreless tie in the 65th minute when freshman Daniella LoBue sailed an open shot high of the net after she broke free from her defender. Two minutes later, the Lions had a pair of shots in the box blocked after a corner kick. The Lions finally broke through in the 84th minute on Terraces' sixth goal of the season off a one-timer at the top of the box following an outstanding right-wing cross from senior Morgan Valera. From there, the Lions held on after holding Penn State Berks without a shot for the final 14 minutes of the game.

Both teams each tallied nine shots for the game with the Nittany Lions holding a 5-3 shots on goal advantage. Penn State Berks also held a slight 4-2 advantage in corner kicks as well.

Lions junior goalkeeper Payton Bogatch earned her second shutout win of the season after making five saves in the entire 90 minutes of play. Albright goalkeepers have now tallied a combined seven shutouts this season. Nittany Lions goalkeeper Paige Elmy suffered the tough-luck loss after making two saves and allowing one goal in the full 90 minutes.

Albright will return to action on Wednesday, October 18th when they will travel to face cross-town rival Alvernia in MAC Commonwealth play at 7:30 p.m.
