READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions field hockey team was unable to overcome a relentless offensive performance from #6 TCNJ as they dropped a 7-1 non-conference contest at Shirk Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 8-7 on the season and hold their 4-2 record in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Lions of TCNJ improved to 12-3 on the season as they bounced back from a loss on Saturday in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play
Albright had trouble keeping TCNJ out of their own zone early which led to the initial goal of the game in the 13
th minute from Elizabeth Morrison to open the scoring. TCNJ struck three minutes later to extend its lead to 2-0 in the 16
th minute off a blast from Sidney Padilla after a set-up from a penalty corner. TCNJ finished off the half with a third goal in the 21
st minute from Cayla Andrews to extend the lead to 3-0 at the half. TCNJ held a commanding 14-0 shot advantage in the first half.
TCNJ wasted little time to extend the lead in the second half as Kayla Peterson scored from the middle of the circle to bring the advantage to 4-0. Two minutes later, Morrison scored again off a blast from the top of the circle and was followed three minutes later by a penalty stroke goal from Padilla that just snuck through Lions goalkeeper
Aileen Taylor. Andrews then scored her second goal of the game on a 2-on-1 breakaway just two minutes later to extend the TCNJ lead to 7-0. Senior
Tracy Snyder would then break the shutout with her seventh goal of the season in the 68
th minute after she was set up by classmate
Kasey Neiderer on a penalty corner opportunity.
Overall, TCNJ held a 24-4 shot advantage for the game with 18 of them being on goal. TCNJ also held a slight 7-3 penalty corner advantage.
Taylor suffered the loss for the Lions after making 11 saves in the full 70 minutes of play. TCNJ goalkeeper Christina Fabiano earned the win playing 55:35 of shutout play without facing a shot. She was relieved by Madison Beaumont who made one save and allowed one goal in the final 14:25 of play.
The Lions will return to action on Thursday, October 26
th when they will host No. 1 Messiah in MAC Commonwealth play for Senior Night at 7 p.m.
