Widener Spoils Women's Soccer Senior Night, 1-0

READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's soccer team senior night was spoiled by a Widener goal in the 26th minute of the game as they lost 1-0 to the Pride on Tuesday night in MAC Commonwealth Play at Shirk Stadium.

With the loss, the Lions drop to 10-6-1 on the season with a 4-2-1 record in MAC Commonwealth play. The loss also snaps a five game winning streak and a seven game home non-losing streak. Meanwhile, the Pride improves to 11-5 on the season with a 3-3 record in conference play. With one game left in the regular season, The Lions hold a half game lead over three teams for the final three MAC Commonwealth Tournament berths.

The Lions opened the contest with the first four shots of the game in the first 10 minutes. Despite Albright controlling the majority of the possession in the first half, the Pride broke through on a 2-on-1 rush that resulted in the only goal of the game. Lexi Slusher outran the Lion defender up the left side of the field, which drew junior goalkeeper Alexis Tunney out of the net to try and break up the play. Slusher then passed over Alyssa Dionisio to the right wing where she shot the ball past another Lions defender and into the net. Albright had a decent chance to tie the game off a free kick from junior Emily Mollica that was saved by the Pride goalkeeper.

Albright had one of its best chances of the night to tie the game in the 54th minute when senior Crissy Terraces went on a breakaway after receiving a pass from sophomore Jillian Lapidus. Unfortunately for the Lions, Terraces' shot hit the right outside of the net after she went wide with pressure mounting from a late arriving Pride defender. The Lions controlled possession for the majority of the second half and had probably their best chance with just over five minutes to go when multiple players crashed the net that resulted in the ball bouncing over to the left corner that landed just in front of the goal line before it was picked up by the goalkeeper.

The Lions held a 12-5 shot advantage for the game after the outshot the Pride 5-1 in the second half. Albright also had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks as well.

Tunney suffered the loss after making two saves and allowing one goal in the full 90 minutes of play. Pride goalkeeper Sam Thach picked up the shutout win after making five saves in the entire 90 minutes.

Albright will conclude its regular season on Saturday, October 28th when they will travel to face Arcadia in MAC Commonwealth play at 12 p.m. A win would lock up the No. 3 seed for the Lions in the MAC Commonwealth tournament and a loss combined with losses from Stevenson or Lebanon Valley would still clinch a berth for the Lions.
