Field Hockey Caps Regular Season with 5-0 win Over McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Albright Lions field hockey team used a dominant offensive performance in the second half to close out the regular season to win 5-0 over McDaniel in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Lions finish the regular season 9-8 overall with a 4-3 record in MAC Commonwealth play to clinch a third straight season with a winning record regular season. Meanwhile, the Green Terror of the Centennial Conference falls to 2-15 overall.

The Lions came out packing the pressure early on the Green Terror with multiple scoring chances that were turned away by the goalkeeper. Despite the pressure, it was not until the 31st minute of the game when the Lions broke the scoreless tie when sophomore Kaley Donmoyer scored after receiving a pass from senior Carly Hollinger.

In the second half, Albright would pull away from McDaniel with four goals spread out in the final 35 minutes. Senior Amanda Long tallied her 10th goal of the season to give the Lions a 2-0 lead in the 50th minute after being set up junior Lindsey Hecker. Long would assist on the Lions next goal as well two minutes later when she found junior Annette Helmandollar to extend the Albright lead to 3-0. After some pressure from the Green Terror, Donmoyer scored again in the 62nd minute to bring the score to 4-0. She now has five goals in the last six games she has played. Freshman Jennifer Crumling would put the finishing touches on the game with a goal in the 69th minute to extend the lead to its eventual final at 5-0.

Albright held a 24-14 shot advantage for the game with 18 going on net, while holding a 9-4 penalty corner advantage as well. Junior goalkeeper Aileen Taylor posted her sixth shutout of the season after making four saves and facing 14 shots in the entire 70 minutes of play. McDaniel used two goalies in the loss as Paige Ford suffered the loss after making 12 saves and allowing four goals in 61 minutes. Elizabeth Collyer relieved Ford for the final eight and half minutes and made one save while allowing the final goal.

The Lions will now look ahead to the MAC Commonwealth Tournament on Wednesday, November 1st when they will travel to face #1 Messiah in a rematch of Thursday night's thriller at 7 p.m.
