GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's soccer team concluded its 2017 season on Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 loss to Arcadia on the road in MAC Commonwealth play.
With the loss, the Lions will conclude the season with a 2-14-2 record with a 1-6-1 mark in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Knights will advance on to the MAC Commonwealth tournament with an 11-4-2 overall record with a 4-3-1 mark in conference play.
The Lions opened the scoring with a Nate Hughes second goal of the season in the 5
th minute of play to take an early 1-0 lead. The Knights began to counter with more offensive pressure which led to a game-tying goal in the 21
st minute of play from Bradley McKim off a free kick that found its way through traffic. Arcadia then followed with a go-ahead goal in the 34
th minute from Harun Abdullahi on a second shot attempt after having his first saved. Arcadia continued to bring the heat on Lions goalkeeper
Billy Mullen, but he stood tall to end the first half with a couple of nice saves. The Knights held a dominant 11-2 shot advantage in the first half.
Albright began generating consistent time in the Knights zone in the second half with chances from junior
Anthony Parlato and Hughes just going wide of the net. The Lions comeback chances took a hit in the 62
nd minute when freshman
Alec Power was given a red card to leave Albright short-handed for the rest of the game. Arcadia then had three shots within two minutes nearly extend the lead before the Lions flipped the field to generate some chances of their own. Junior
Miles Williams nearly missed the net with a high shot off a free kick in the 79
th minute. The Lions had one last good look at the goal with a shot from
Alex Lahey that went just wide left in the 86
th minute before the end of the game.
The Knights held 19-10 shot advantage for the game after the teams each had eight shots in the second half. Arcadia also held a slight 6-5 advantage in corner kicks as well.
Mullen suffered the tough loss after making eight saves and allowing two goals in the full 90 minutes of play. Knights goalkeeper Chris Watson earned the win after making three saves and allowing one goal in the entire 90 minutes.
