No. 7 Delaware Valley Stops No. 24 Lions, 41-6

READING, Pa. – The No. 24 Albright football team saw its undefeated start to the 2017 season come to an end on Saturday at Shirk Stadium. The Lions lost to No. 7 Delaware Valley, 41-6, in the annual Homecoming game.

Delaware Valley (6-0, 5-0) scored a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter to take the early lead. Devauntay Ellis capped the Aggies' opening drive with a 36-yard touchdown run to make it 7-0. DelVal's drive went 75 yards in five plays, taking 1:47 off the clock.

The Aggies pushed its lead to 14-0 on its next drive after forcing an Albright punt. Marquis Ellis made a leaping grab in the corner of the end zone on a 26-yard pass from Dashawn Darden. DelVal's drive went 13 plays, 83 yards in 6:42. DelVal outgained the Lions, 167-53, in the first quarter.

Albright (5-1, 4-1) mounted a drive on its next possession. The Lions went 40 yards in 10 plays, but the drive stalled at the Aggies' 31. Kevin Goetz came on to attempt a long field goal from 48 yards out, but it went wide left.

The Albright defense forced a turnover on downs and a punt on the Aggies' next two possessions, but DelVal used a splash play from its special teams to make it 20-0. Shawn Miller blocked a punt inside the Albright 10, and Nick Wright picked it up and scored from five yards out with 4:49 left in the first half.

Wright scored again in the third quarter, this time on a 58-yard interception return to make it 27-0. Ellis followed that with his second touchdown reception of the day, scoring from 28 yards out to cap a seven-play, 74-yard drive in 3:02 to make it 34-6.

The Lions got on the board midway through the fourth quarter. Milton Cordero made a 13-yard touchdown grab from Jimmy Lahay to make it 34-6. Cordero finished with four catches for 38 yards.

Kyle Dickerson led the Lions in a variety of ways. He finished with 222 all-purpose yards. He led the team with 87 receiving yards on a team-high seven grabs. He also had 82 kick-return yards and 52 punt-return yards. Mike Jordan had five grabs for 68 yards.

Nate Steffen led the Lions' defense with eight tackles. Kali Boyce and Alex Isaac each had five tackles. Isaiah Baylor had a sack and 2.5 tackles for loss.

Albright moves into its bye week before traveling to Stevenson on Oct. 21.
