SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Albright women's soccer team had the No.1 seed and host, Springfield, on the ropes Saturday afternoon in the ECAC Championship Semifinals. Unfortunately for the Lions, they allowed two goals within a minute of each other in the final 10 minutes to lose 2-1 to the Pride.
With the loss, the Lions will conclude the season at 12-9-1 after advancing to the ECAC Champiosnhip semifinals for the first time in program history. Meanwhile the Pride, improves to 16-6-1 on the year and will face NYU tomorrow for a chance at their second straight ECAC Championship.
Senior
Crissy Terraces opened the scoring for the Lions in the seventh minute when she scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the top right corner of the net after she was fed a pass from sophomore
Jillian Lapidus. The Lions were unable to continue to generate momentum after the goal as the Pride controlled the majority of possession for the first half. Junior goalkeeper
Alexis Tunney made a fantastic diving stop on the best Pride chance of the first half in the 43
rd minute to keep the Lions in the lead as the teams headed to halftime. Springfield held a 10-4 shot advantage in the first half, with five of them going on goal.
The Lions got a good look on goal in the 62
nd minute after a corner kick opportunity when freshman Daniella LoBue had a shot saved by the Pride goalkeeper. Tunney then had to make another big save in the 65
th minute when a Springfield shot was fired from 45 yards out that hit the crossbar after Tunney initially deflected it. Senior
Emily Saxon then had to come up big with Tunney out of position in the 77
th minute to make a defensive save to keep the Lions in the lead. The Pride then finally found the back of the net to tie the game in the 85
th minute when Amanda Wright scored on a one-timer on a pass from Kim Quiles. Springfield then took the lead for good just 1:25 later on a header from Mikaela Coady after the ball was nearly headed in by Dakota Kelly off a direct kick. The Lions would not record a shot for the final four minutes of the game.
Springfield held a 24-9 shot advantage after outshooting the Lions 14-5 in the second half. The Pride also held a 5-4 corner kick advantage as well. Tunney made seven saves and allowed two goals in a valiant effort for the full 90 minutes, while Pride goalkeeper Ciara Boucher made four saves and allowed one goal in the full 90 minutes.
