Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Strong Shooting, Block Party Pace Men’s Hoops in Win

READING, Pa. – The Albright men's basketball team shot 52.8 percent from the floor, its second-best output of the season, as it defeated Arcadia, 73-57, on Saturday at Bollman Center.

DeJuan Smith led the charge with 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Jared Rappoport filled the stat sheet with six points, 10 rebounds and six blocks. That tied him for fourth on the school's single-game blocks list with Kyle Jordan (2014) and Brendan Ferns (1999).

Albright (5-1, 2-0) took a 39-21 lead into halftime thanks to a 51.7 performance from the floor while holding Arcadia to just 25.8 percent in the first. The Lions' defense held Arcadia below double digits for more than 12 minutes to begin play.

Arcadia's bucket to make the score 27-11 with 7:45 remaining in the first half stopped a 10-0 run for Albright. Freshman Samuel Majekodunmi had a pair of scores on the run while Jayson Clark and Isaiah Harris each made a shot. Majekodunmi finished with 10 points.

Fred Rowles was the third Albright scorer to reach double figures, finishing with 15 points. He scored six-straight Albright points late in the first half to push the lead to 38-20. He also finished with nine rebounds and four assists.

Smith came through with 14 of his 19 points in the second half on 6-of-9 shooting and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. Smith's three pointer early in the second pushed the Albright lead to a game-high 21 points at 42-21, but Arcadia began to chip away at the Albright advantage.

The Knights went on a 19-7 run to cut the lead all the way into single digits on a Josh Scott three pointer with 12:25 to play. Smith hit a jumper just before that made three pointer, and he also came back with five more points after Scott's three. Smith hit a three to make it 52-40 with 11:43 left, and he made a layup while being fouled to make it 54-40 with 10:33 left.

The lead never again strayed below 12 points while reaching as high as 20 in the last minute. Rappoport had four of his six blocks in the second half. The Lions held Arcadia to just 27.4 percent shooting for the game.

Albright returns to action at Widener on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
