READING, Pa. – The Albright men's basketball team engaged in an offensive fireworks show on Saturday afternoon against Lebanon Valley, but the Dutchmen made the last run as they topped the Lions, 91-87.
DeJuan Smith led four Albright scorers in double figures, finishing with 20 points.
Jared Rappoport finished with a double-double, recording 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lions shot better than 55 percent from the floor in the first half and still trailed by four points. Lebanon Valley shot 73.9 percent from the floor and made 6-of-7 three pointers to hold a 47-43 lead at the half. The Lions took advantage of nine Lebanon Valley turnovers that included six steals to help them stay in the game.
Fred Rowles scored 12 of his 17 points in the first half.
In the second half, the Lions got hot from beyond the arc. Albright made eight three pointers in the first 12 minutes. The final two of those three pointers, both by
Brandon Lindsay, staked the Lions to a 10-point lead. His second three pointer gave Albright an 81-71 lead with 8:01 to play. It also finished a 21-10 stretch for the Lions over the course of five-plus minutes. Fifteen of those 21 Albright points came on three pointers.
With Albright ahead, 81-74, Lebanon Valley's Sam Light scored the next 10 points for his team. His three pointer with 3:05 to play gave the Dutchmen an 84-83 lead. It would turn out to be the final lead change of the day, but the Lions still nearly sent the game to overtime.
Smith made two free throws to make it 90-87 Lebanon Valley, and the Lions forced Light into a turnover with 26 seconds left. On the next possession
Omari Ringgold's three pointer from the top of the key used the rim and backboard a few different times, but it did not find its mark. Lebanon Valley made a free throw on the next possession to put the game out of reach.
Ringgold finished with 13 points, putting him within striking distance of 1,000 points for the Lions' next game at Alvernia on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. He now has 995 career points.
