Baseball Splits Doubleheader in Spring Break Opener

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Noah Beebe finished with two hits and a run scored, and three Lions pitchers combined to limit Marywood to four hits as the Albright baseball team took the second game in the doubleheader with Marywood at the Lawnwood Complex. The Lions fell 4-2 in the opener before earning a 3-1 win in the night game.

Beebe and Micah Storms were the only Lions to record a hit in game one as both recorded a double in the contest. The Pacers took an early 2-0 lead thanks to a Vince Rebar RBI triple to right field that scored James Goetz, and a Marywood groundout that brought in Rebar.

The Lions would get one back in the fifth inning after Storms led off the inning with a double followed by a walk from Zach Krause. Logan Pennypacker moved the runners up a base before Austin Roth grounded into a fielder's choice to score Storm.

Albright would surrender two more runs on two errors in the top of the sixth as the Pacers extended their lead to 4-1.
Beebe would score the final run of the game in the bottom half of the inning on a Marywood error as the Pacers took the opener 4-2.

Mat Costa led the Lions pitching staff with four strikeouts, while Goetz struck out seven in a complete game effort for Marywood, who earned its first win of the season.

The Lions plated three runs in the opening inning on their way to a 3-1 win. All of the scoring for the second game came in the first two innings as Marywood scored its lone run in the second inning on a Chase Jones groundout.

Jimmy Gentry ignited the Lions explosive first inning reaching base on a Renbar error and stealing second. With two outs, Beebe singled to the shortstop to advance Gentry to third, who would score on a throwing error by the shortstop. Tanner Brescancine stepped up next to the plate, where he drove the ball to center field, for a triple that easily scored Beebe for the Lions second run of the game. Brescancine scored the final Albright run on a wild pitch from Justin Haddix.

The Lions pitching staff was strong in the nighttime game as Shaun O'Reilly, Daron Pijanowski, and Michael Falconetti combined to limit Marywood to four hits and five strikeouts. Pijanowski earned his first win of the season pitching 3.1 scoreless innings, while Falconetti earned his first save of the season. The freshman allowed only two batters to reach base in 1.2 innings.

Albright returns to the diamond on March 14 when the Lions take on Kenyon College and Eastern Nazarene College. First pitch for game is scheduled for 10 a.m. and the second game is scheduled to start 7:30 p.m.
