WLAX Rally Falls Short Versus Washington

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Albright women's lacrosse team pulled within one late against Washington College before two late goals sealed a 10-7 win for the Shoremen at Barker Field in Hilton Head, S.C. on Tuesday morning.

Washington jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Caitlin Donovan and Aubrey Robinson.

Albright answered with a goal of its own when Mariah Cullen scored off a pass from Sophie Bass with 16:08 on the clock.

The Shoremen, who would go on to score three of the final four goals of the half, quickly responded with a goal of their own only 19 seconds later. After winning the draw control, Rachael Shaw's shot found the back of the net to extend Washington's lead to 3-1. A free-position goal from Katherine Vincent gave the Shoremen a three-goal lead with 8:57 remaining in the half.

Patricia Horgan made it a 4-2 game after a free position shot from Cullen. Horgan scooped up a groundball before firing the ball on net for her fourth goal of the season.

Washington would add one more goal before halftime with 6:00 minutes remaining in the half as Alison Pantazes scored to give the Shoremen a 5-2 lead.

The Shoremen started the second half scoring two goals to take their biggest lead of the game, 7-2, thanks to goals from Robinson and Shaw.

Despite trailing by five goals with less than 16 minutes remaining, the Lions rallied scoring five of the next six goals to cut the lead down to a single goal.

Kelly Baumann scored back-to-back goals to pull Albright within three. The freshman netted her first goal of the game with 15:28 on the clock after a Washington turnover seconds earlier. A little over four minutes later, Baumman scored again off a Shoremen turnover.

Albright's offensive explosion was halted with 9:58 remaining in the half as Vincent scored to give Washington an 8-4 lead.

Cullen reignited the Lions offense scoring only 22 seconds later on a free-position shot to start a three goal run for Albright. Devon Mela's shot found the back of the net with 6:04 on the clock, and Baumann recorded a hat trick off a free position at 2:59 to bring the Lions within one, 8-7.

Morgen Moran scored the final two goals of the game for the Shoremen as Washington held on for the win.

???????Baumann led all players with three goals, while Cullen added two. Haley Joyce made 12 saves for the Lions.

Albright returns to action in Hilton Head, S.C., on Wednesday morning when it takes on SUNY College at Old Westbury at 9 a.m.
