FREDERICK, Md. – The Albright baseball team gave up four runs in the bottom of the first inning in the first game of its doubleheader at Hood on Sunday, but the Lions came back with an eight-run third inning to help the team to a 10-5 victory. In game two, Hood came back with a 4-1 victory.
In the third,
Zach Krause led off with a walk and
Joe Suppa followed with a single.
Austin Roth followed with a sacrifice bunt, but he reached on the play to load the bases.
Nathan Fretz hit a two-run single to score Krause and Suppa to make it 4-2, and
Jimmie Gentry followed with a groundout to score Roth to cut the lead to 4-3.
Jeff Yordy followed with an infield single to put two men on, and
Tanner Brescancine re-loaded the bases with a single of his own. Brescancine led the Albright offense in game one, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
A wild pitch moved all three runners ahead a base, and Fretz's run tied the game, 4-4.
Micah Storms had another infield hit for the Lions, and that allowed Yordy to cross to give Albright a 5-4 lead. After a second out, Krause came up for the second time in the inning. He launched a three-run homer to left center to cap the big inning with the Lions ahead, 8-4.
Albright added two insurance runs. In the fourth, Brescancine singled home Gentry. And in the seventh, Brescancine scored on a passed ball after singling earlier in the inning.
Yordy also had three hits, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Suppa went 2-for-3 with a walk.
Connor Travis settled down after a bumpy first inning. He didn't allow another run in his final five innings of work while striking out four batters.
In game two, Hood scored two runs in each the third and fourth innings to account for its offense. Trailing 2-0 in the top of the fourth, Albright pushed its lone run across. Gentry and Yordy each singled and advanced on a passed ball. Brescancine flied out to score Gentry to make it 2-1 Hood.
Shaun O'Reilly and
Michael Falconetti came out of the bullpen to combine for 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.
Albright returns to action Monday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading. The Lions will face Kutztown in the neutral site game. Tickets can be purchased through the team or at the gate for $5. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
