READING, Pa. – Regina Milburn and
Stephany Courtney had hits in each game of the Albright softball team's doubleheader at Alvernia on Wednesday, but the Lions fell in each end of the twin bill, 11-0 and 8-2.
In game one, Alvernia scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and added tallies in each of the next three innings. Milburn, Courtney and
Jessica Rodriguez each had a hit for the Lions while Rodriguez and Chell reached on walks.
In game two, Albright took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Courtney doubled with one out, and
Stephanie Pomante walked after the second out.
Abigail Lord reached on an error to bring Courtney home for a 1-0 Lions' lead.
Alvernia scored three runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead, but Albright responded in the top of the third to get one of those runs back. Chell singled and stole second, and she came around to score on Milburn's triple to right field. She was stranded at third, though, to keep the score 3-2 Alvernia.
The Crusaders added to their lead with two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to round out the scoring.
Camille Sears pitched a perfect inning in relief for the Lions.
Albright returns to action Saturday for a home MAC Commonwealth doubleheader against Lebanon Valley at 1 p.m.
