Stevenson Tops MLAX in MAC Commonwealth Title Game

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Albright men's lacrosse team got off to a fast start at Stevenson in the MAC Commonwealth Championship game on Saturday night at Mustang Stadium, but Stevenson scored nine consecutive goals across the second and third periods to win, 12-6.

Albright, playing in its third MAC Commonwealth title game since 2012, jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first period. The Lions used four different goal scorers, starting with a goal by Nick Tonno from Cam Cetrone just over three minutes into play. After Stevenson tied the score with 9:50 left in the first, Albright retook the lead on Andrew Cox's first goal of the season.

Alex Kaufmann made it 3-1 with his second goal of the season with just 40 seconds to play in the first. Albright wasted no time in making it 4-1. Cetrone netted his 68th goal of the season just nine seconds after Kaufmann's score. That capped the first period scoring.

Stevenson held Albright scoreless through the second and third quarters while the Mustangs managed to score nine straight. Jacob Brown tied the score at 4-4 with 7:30 left in the second, and Morgan Pritchett gave the Mustangs the lead with 4:02 remaining before halftime. Stevenson added one more goal before intermission to take a 6-4 lead.

In the third, Stevenson scored four more goals. Tyler Fuhrman capped the run with the goal to make it 10-4 with just one second left in the third quarter.

Albright pushed back in the fourth. Cetrone got his second of the night to make it 10-5 with 8:12 to play. Tonno followed with a man-up goal with 6:13 to play to make it 10-6. Stevenson, however, scored the final two goals of the game in the final three minutes to cap the contest.

Stevenson outshot Albright, 51-31, including a 25-17 advantage in shots on goal. Ryan Aler made 13 saves in goal for the Lions.

Cetrone led the Lions with six ground balls. TJ Keleher and Christian Mayer each had three.
