WAYNE, N.J. – Behind three first half goals, the Albright Lions field hockey team earned their first win of the season on the road over William Paterson by a score of 3-0 in non-conference play.
With the win, the Lions improve to 1-2 in early non-conference action. Meanwhile, the Pioneers record drops to 2-3. Albright has now defeated William Paterson in back-to-back seasons.
The Lions got on the board early as senior
Amanda Long buried her second goal of the season off a penalty stroke in the 5
th minute of the contest. Albright's offense continued to control the game in the first half, which led to senior
Tracy Snyder tallying her second goal of the season to give the Lions a 2-0 lead in the 23
rd minute. Long would then score her second goal of the game just before halftime off a deflection in front of the goal. The Lions outshot the Pioneers 7-0 in the first half.
Long would nearly get a hat trick early in the second half after she registered back to back shots near the goal. Despite not scoring in the second half, the Lions continued to dominate the Pioneers in their own zone to complete the shutout victory. The Lions held the Pioneers without a shot until the 53
rd minute of the game. Albright would outshoot the Pioneers 8-2 in the second half.
The Lions held a convincing 15-2 shot advantage over William Paterson and had 11 of the shots find the target. Albright also held a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Junior goalkeeper
Aileen Taylor earned her first shutout of the season after playing the entire 70 minutes with no saves. Pioneer goalkeeper Mallory Rickerhauser suffered the loss after making eight saves and allowing three goals in the full 70 minutes.
Albright will return to action on Saturday, September 16, when it hosts York (Pa.) for a 12 p.m. non-conference contest.
