Men's Soccer Suffers 1-0 Loss at Home to McDaniel

READING, Pa. – The Albright men's soccer team created a late offensive surge, but ran out of time as they dropped a hard fought 1-0 contest to McDaniel on Wednesday night in non-conference action.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-3-1 on the season in early non-conference action. Meanwhile, the Green Terror improve to 4-0 on the season.

Each defense from both teams controlled the play early in the first half as the first shot was not registered until the 10th minute of the game. Albright would keep McDaniel off the scoreboard until the 32nd minute when Green Terror leading scorer, Raul Escobar, scored on a through ball by teammate Cam Gebhart. The Green Terror would outshoot the Lions 6-0 in the first half.

Albright's offense began heating up in the second half, and got a great scoring chance in the 47th minute off a free kick from junior Anthony Parlato. Unfortunately for the Lions, Parlato's shot hit the top of the crossbar and went over the net. The Lions got two chances in the 88th minute to tie the game when freshman Quinlan Poley had his header blocked in the box, which led to Senior TJ DePasquale narrowly missing the net with a high shot off the rebound. In the end, the Green Terror would hold off the Lions in the final minute to seal the win.

McDaniel held an 8-4 shot advantage for the game, but was outshot 4-2 by the Lions in the second half. The Green Terror also held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Lions sophomore goalkeeper Billy Mullen suffered the tough loss after making one save and allowing one goal in the full 90 minutes of play. Green Terror goalkeeper Nick Over earned the win after making one save in 90 minutes.

Albright will return to action on Saturday, September 16 when it hosts Eastern Mennonite for a 3 p.m. start.
