DeSales Downs Men's Soccer 3-0

READING, Pa. – The Albright men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 contest to the DeSales Bulldogs in non-conference play at Shirk Stadium on a hot Wednesday afternoon

With the loss, the Lions drop to 1-8-1 on the season as they played their final non-conference game of the season. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs improve their record to 8-1 and have now won eight games in a row.

DeSales got on the board early in the 4th minute when Javaughn Hussett scored on a breakaway after he beat one Albright defender to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs would register the first eight shots of the game as they kept attacking the Lions zone hard in the first half. Sophomore Connor Morgan would tally the first Albright shot of the game that was saved by the Bulldogs goalkeeper. DeSales outshot the Lions 10-1 in the first half.

The Bulldogs received two penalty kick opportunities in the first five minutes of the second half, both on handballs in the box. The first kick was missed, but DeSales would cash in on the second one 30 seconds later to bring the score to 2-0. DeSales would add one more goal in the 62nd minute from Max Cortina off a powerful strike from the far left wing to the top right corner of the net. Albright would end up outshooting the Lions 6-5 in the second half.

DeSales finished with a 15-7 shot advantage, with 12 of them going on net. The Lions held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.

A pair of Lions goalies saw action in the loss, with sophomore Billy Mullen making eight saves and allowing two goals in 59:25 of action. Freshman Brendan Hanratty made one save and allowed one goal in 30:35 of action. DeSales goalkeeper Dan Sulpizio earned the shutout after making six saves in the full 90 minutes.
