READING, Pa. – In their best offensive performance of the season to date, the Albright Lions field hockey team scored two goals in each half to defeat Susquehanna 4-0 in non-conference action on Wednesday night.
With the win, the Lions improve to 4-3 and register their third-straight win. Meanwhile, the River Hawks of the Landmark Conference fall to 4-5 on the season.
Albright wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as freshman
Bailey Lehman tallied her second goal of the season in the 2
nd minute of play after she was set up by senior
Tracy Snyder in the circle to blast the ball past the goalkeeper. The Lions continued to control the game on offense throughout the first half and cashed in again in the 24
th minute when senior
Cassidy Barrow scored her first goal of the season when she ripped the ball at the top of the circle. The Lions outshot the River Hawks 8-6 in the first half of play.
The Lions would continue to pounce in the second half when senior
Amanda Long scored her sixth goal of the season when she shot the ball in the left circle over the goalkeeper and off a River Hawk defender into the net. Long has now scored three goals in her last two games. Snyder would cap the scoring just over a minute later when she blasted the ball fresh off a penalty corner from classmate
Kasey Neiderer. Albright finished the game by fending off some tough penalty corner chances from the River Hawks to preserve the shutout.
Albright finished with a 21-11 shot advantage after outshooting the River Hawks 13-5 in the second half. Susquehanna held a slight 10-9 edge in penalty corners.
Junior goalkeeper
Aileen Taylor earned her third shutout win of the season after making just one save in the full 70 minutes of play. Susquehanna used two goalkeepers in the contest with Courtney Purnell earning the loss after starting the game and made one save and allowed two goals in 26 minutes of action. Emily DiGaetano relieved her and made seven saves, while allowing two goals in just under 44 minutes of action.
The Lions will return to action on Saturday, September 30
th when they will travel to face Widener in MAC Commonwealth play at 12 p.m.
