GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Albright men's soccer team could not overcome four early goals and suffered a 7-0 loss to Rowan on the road Wednesday night in non-conference action.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 1-2 on the season in the first couple of non-conference games of the year. Meanwhile, the Profs of the NJAC, improve to 2-1 on the season.
Rowan got off to a hot start to the game after scoring the first goal of the game in the eighth minute off favorable bounces from a corner kick. The Profs would add to their lead by scoring three goals within 10 minutes of each other to take a commanding 4-0 lead in the first half. Albright was outshot by a staggering 17-1 margin in the first half of play.
The Profs continued to pull away in the second half after they scored their fifth goal just seven minutes into the period to make it 5-0. Rowan finished their shutout win with a pair of goals in the 62
nd and 72
nd minutes to extend the lead out to 7-0 where it would stay until the end of the game. The Lions were unable to register a shot in the second half as they got outshot by the Profs, 12-0.
Overall, Rowan held a 29-1 shot advantage for the game and a 13-1 advantage of corner kicks. The Profs landed 14 of their shots on target, while the Lions lone shot of the game was on net.
Albright used two goalies in the game as freshman goalkeeper
Brendan Hanratty earned the first start of his collegiate career in net. Hanratty made five saves and allowed five goals in 61 minutes of play in the net. He was relieved by junior
Adam Giurlando, who made two saves and allowed two goals in 29 minutes in net. Rowan also used two goalies in the game and each played a full half.
The Lions will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 10 when they will travel to face Mount Aloysius for a 1 p.m. start.
