GLENSIDE, Pa. – Freshman
Samuel Majekodunmi led the Albright men's basketball team with 17 points, but Arcadia overcame a second-half deficit to defeat the Lions, 75-62, on Wednesday night in MAC Commonwealth action.
DeJuan Smith filled the stat sheet for Albright, finishing with 11 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and five steals.
With the score tied at 39 with 14:52 to play, the Lions went on a 10-0 run over the course of three minutes.
Garrett Oplinger and Majekodunmi each made three pointers on the stretch, and Smith scored the other four points. His layup on an assist from
Fred Rowles gave Albright a 49-39 lead with 11:47 left in the second half. Albright assisted on 18 of its 22 field goals.
That was the Lions' largest lead of the night, and it triggered a sustained run from Arcadia. The Knights responded with a 15-2 run to flip the score in their favor. After Arcadia cut the lead to 49-46, Majekodunmi scored the lone Albright basket in the stretch to push the Lions' lead back to five points. Arcadia responded with eight more points in a row to take a 54-51 lead with 6:57 to play.
Albright managed to cut the lead to one point on two separate occasions, but the Lions couldn't get that one extra score to retake the lead. Oplinger hit a shot to make it 56-55 Arcadia, but the Knights came back with six straight points to make it a three-possession lead. Albright couldn't get its deficit any closer than six in the last 4:14 of action.
Albright had a 10-0 run in the first half, too. Trailing, 22-19, Majekodunmi hit a layup and a three pointer. Oplinger scored, and Rowles hit a three pointer to help the Lions to a 29-22 lead with 2:33 remaining in the first half. Rowles finished with nine points, eight rebounds and six assists. Brandon Lindsay converted a three-point play in the final minute. He finished with 10 points.
Arcadia held the Lions to just 28.6 percent shooting in the second half while it shot 54.5 percent in the half. Albright shot 33.8 percent for the game.
Albright returns to action on Saturday at Stevenson with a 3 p.m. tip-off time. Albright defeated Stevenson, 81-77, in November at Bollman Center.
