READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's soccer team (4-8-2, 1-3-1 MACC) and Stevenson Mustangs (8-6-1, 2-3-1 MACC) battled to a scoreless draw in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday night at Shirk Stadium in Reading.
Junior goalie
Billy Mullen played a huge role in keeping the game scoreless as he denied Stevenson's Tariq Lee on a penalty kick in the 85
th minute. Mullen dove to his left and was able to deflect Lee's shot.
Prior to the game, the team's senior class of
Jared Leckburg,
Miles Williams,
Anthony Parlato and
Yauza Arauz was honored in a pregame ceremony.
Stevenson held a 10-0 shot advantage in the opening stanza and perhaps the best chance came in the 11
th minute when Lee sent a header off the crossbar. Mullen made seven saves in the opening stanza.
The Lions had a couple of chances in the second half, but were unable to break through as Parlato sent a shot just wide in the 76
th minute.
The two sides combined for just two shots in the two overtime periods while Stevenson had two corner kicks and Albright had one.
Stevenson held a 15-3 advantage in shots and a 10-0 advantage in shots on target. The game was a physical affair that featured eight yellow cards and 34 fouls.
Mullen made 10 saves in net to record his second consecutive shutout.
Albright is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 20 when they head to Lebanon Valley for a MAC Commonwealth tilt at 1 p.m.
