CHESTER, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's soccer team (10-3-2, 4-2-1 MACC) clinched a berth in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth tournament with a 1-1 draw against Widener (6-6-3, 4-2-1 MACC) on Wednesday night at Quick Stadium in Chester.
The Lions and Pride are currently tied for third in the MAC Commonwealth standings with one game remaining.
Albright struck first in the 42
nd minute as
Lauren Haley sent a through ball up the left side to
Autumn Bieber who was able to beat Widener goalie Delaney Sabath to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The goal was Bieber's third of the season. Widener held an 11-7 shot advantage in the opening stanza.
The Pride would tie the game in the 57
th minute as Alyssa Dionisio played a through ball over the top from Alex Polon and found the back of the net to even things at one apiece.
The Lions had a couple of opportunities with corner kicks in the first five minutes of the first overtime period, but were unable to breakthrough.
Widener held a 28-18 shot advantage in the contest and a slight 13-12 edge in shots on target. Bieber had five shots and Haley recorded four to pace Albright, while Brielle Errico led the way for the Pride with six shots.
Senior goalie
Alexis Tunney made 12 saves in net for the Lions, while Sabath had 10 saves for Widener.
Albright closes out the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 27 when they battle crosstown rival Alvernia at 2:30 p.m. at Shirk Stadium. The senior class of
