Bieber, Haley Lift Women's Soccer Over Alvernia, 5-2

READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's soccer team (11-3-2, 5-2-1) tied a season-high with five goals in a 5-2 victory over crosstown rival Alvernia (3-13-2, 1-7) on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Shirk Stadium in Reading.

Albright will either be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Tournament and will take on defending league champion Arcadia, who is the No. 2 seed.

The Lions had previously scored five goals in a 5-2 win over Marywood on Sept. 1.

Freshman Autumn Bieber got the Lions on the board in the 20th minute as Lauren Haley's initial shot deflected off Alvernia keeper Lily Sankey and bounced right to Bieber. Less than six minutes later, Haley was brought down in the box and senior Kennedy Lutz converted a penalty kick to make it a 2-0 game. The goal was Bieber's fourth of the season and Lutz's eighth.

Haley and Bieber teamed up for the first two goals of the second half as Bieber sent a feed to the middle in the 47th minute and Haley beat Sankey near post. Just over three minutes later, Bieber split two Alvernia defenders with a pass and found an open Haley who made it a 4-0 game. The goals were her team-leading 12th and 13th of the season.
Junior Jillian Lapidus closed the scoring for Albright with a blast from 10 yards out in the 70th minute-her fifth goal of the season-to stretch the lead to 5-0. The Golden Wolves scored two goals in the final 17 minutes to account for the final margin of 5-2.

Albright held a 19-8 shot advantage in the contest and an 11-5 edge in shots on target. Haley paced the hosts with 10 shots, while Bieber recorded three. The trio of Lauren Gough, Kyla Gibson and Sydney Lobb had two shots apiece for Alvernia.

Senior goalie Alexis Tunney had one save and classmate Payton Bogatch made a pair for the Lions, while Sankey recorded five saves for the visitors.
