Volleyball Concludes Season With 3-1 Loss to Alvernia

READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's volleyball team finished its 2018 season with a 3-1 loss (25-16, 19-25, 21-25, 17-25) to Alvernia on Thursday night in the Bollman Center.
 
With the loss, the Lions conclude the season with a 9-13 record overall and a 1-7 record in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Golden Wolves conclude the season 5-16 overall with a 1-7 record in conference play.
 
Freshman Grace Serafin led the Lions with a team-high eight kills and added a season-high 16 digs. Sophomore Bryana Chambers followed with seven kills and two blocks, while classmate Kaitlyn Chell added six digs in addition to a game-high 22 digs. Sophomore Alexa Poss paced the offense with 22 assists, while adding four kills and three aces. Senior Becca Davis concluded her Albright career with 21 digs to finish second all-time in program history in digs with 1,235.
 
The first set began back and forth until the Golden Wolves won three-straight points to go up 9-6. Albright then took nine of the next 11 points to go up 15-11 and force a Golden Wolves timeout. The Lions picked right up where they left off out of the timeout as they won nine of the next 12 points to take a commanding 24-14 lead. A service error from Alvernia concluded the set after back-to-back points. The Lions started strong in the second set as well as they quickly went up 3-0 and then held a 4-2 lead. The Golden Wolves would win four of the next five points to go up 6-5 before taking seven of the next nine points to go up 13-7 and force a Lions timeout. Albright rallied to win six of the next eight points to cut the lead down to 15-13 and would eventually tie the set at 16. However, Alvernia won six of the next eight points to take a 23-18 lead before closing the set out at 25-19.
 
Each team won four-straight points to begin the third set and the Lions started out with an early 6-5 lead. Alvernia came back by winning four of the next five points to go up 9-7 before the Lions rallied back to the third set at 10. The Golden Wolves would win six-straight points to go up 16-10, but Albright came back again with five-straight points to force a Golden Wolves timeout. The Lions rallied again to make it 19-18 after a short Alvernia run, but they would get no closer as the Golden Wolves took the third set 25-21. Alvernia jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the fourth set and would continue to control play by going up 12-4. Albright rallied to take five of the next seven points to make it a 14-9 game before getting as close as three points at 16-13. The score worked its way out to 20-16 in favor of Alvernia before the Golden Wolves took five of the final six points to close the game out.
 
The Lions started out the match with a .333 hitting percentage in the first set before just finishing with a .051 hitting percentage. Alvernia held a 12-3 advantage in service aces and a 7-4 advantage in blocks as well.
