Moshang Lifts Field Hockey Over McDaniel in Overtime

READING, Pa. – Junior Mia Moshang scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the Albright Lions field hockey team concluded its 2018 season with a 1-0 win over McDaniel on a rainy Saturday evening at Shirk Stadium.

With the win, the Lions will finish the season with an 8-10 overall record as they played their third-straight overtime contest. Meanwhile, the Green Terror played their third overtime game in four contests and will conclude their season at 4-13. Prior to the game, the Lions honored its four seniors as part of senior day activities.

After making a key save on the Green Terror in the fourth minute, the Lions had three shots all saved within a 24 second span to keep the game scoreless. The Lions continued to control play and had four penalty corner opportunities in a four-minute span, but the Green Terror goalkeeper continued to come up big with a pair of saves. Albright then had back-to-back shots from sophomore Bailey Lehman and senior Lindsey Hecker saved in front of the net in the 30th minute to send the game scoreless into halftime.

The Green Terror had the first good chance of the second half in the 43rd minute on a hard shot that was saved by Lions sophomore goalkeeper Brynne Schoppe. Albright then almost broke the scoreless tie in the 52nd minute on a shot by sophomore Jennifer Crumling, but a defensive save kept the game locked a zero. Schoppe would make one more save in the 56th minute, and the game would head to overtime. In overtime, the Lions quickly converted on a penalty corner in the 72nd minute as Moshang slid the ball past the McDaniel goalkeeper after Lehman found her on a blast.

The Lions held a 14-11 shot advantage for the game and a 12-5 advantage in shots on net. Albright also held a 14-8 advantage in penalty corners as well. Schoppe earned the win after making five saves in the full 71:19, while Green Terror goalkeeper Paige Ford suffered the loss after making 10 saves.
