Women's Soccer Rallies to Top Wilkes, Advances to ECAC Championship

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Freshman Diza Hasanaj scored the game winner in the 83rd minute and the Albright Lions women's soccer team (14-4-2) advanced to the ECAC Championship with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Wilkes (11-9-2) on Saturday afternoon on the campus of McDaniel College.

Hasanaj buried a header off a corner from freshman Autumn Bieber at the 83:55 mark of the second half to give the Lions a 2-1 lead. The goal was Hasanaj's first of the season.

The 14 wins also mark a new program-record for Albright, breaking the previous record of 13 that had been set in 2004 and 2005.

Albright advances to play McDaniel in the ECAC Championship game tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. The Lions defeated the Green Terror by a 2-1 score on Sept. 8 at Shirk Stadium in Reading.

Wilkes grabbed an early 1-0 edge just three minutes into the game as Haley Evans notched her second goal of the season. The Colonels held a 9-6 shot advantage in the opening stanza.

The Lions tied the game just over six minutes into the second half as junior Jillian Lapidus collected a loose ball in the box off a free kick and notched her sixth goal of the season.

The Colonels held a 14-8 shot advantage in the contest including a 9-4 edge in shots on target. Hasanaj and sophomore forward Lauren Haley had two shots apiece to pace the Lions.

Senior goalie Alexis Tunney made eight saves in net for Albright.
