READING, Pa. – Brandon Lindsay became the latest Albright men's basketball player to hit at least six three pointers in a game as he went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc while scoring 27 points as the Lions cruised past Alvernia, 94-71, in the teams' MAC Commonwealth matchup on Thursday night at Bollman Center. With the win, Albright clinches a berth in the MAC Commonwealth tournament.
The Lions made 13 three pointers, including 11 in the first half, to match their season high.
In nine possessions over a span of 4:30 in the first half, Albright hit six three pointers.
DeLascio Dancy had the first on that run to make it 25-18 with 9:28 left, and Lindsay and
Fred Rowles followed with threes on each of Albright's next two possessions.
Lindsay hit three more three pointers to make it 40-28 with 4:58 remaining, and he extended his personal scoring run to 12 consecutive Albright points with three makes from the charity stripe with 3:30 left. Even after all that, Alvernia made enough shots to only trail, 43-33, with 2:46 to play in the half.
Albright (17-5, 10-4) inserted the dagger in the last two minutes of the half as it finished on a 12-0 run.
Isaiah Harris completed a three-point play and followed that with another bucket on the Lions' next possession.
Samuel Majekodunmi scored on the fast break with 1:03 left to make it 50-33, and he added two more free throws with 25 seconds left to make it 52-33. Alvernia turned the ball over with four seconds left in the half, and
DeJuan Smith made the Golden Wolves pay with a three pointer at the buzzer to push the lead to 55-33 at the intermission.
The lead ballooned to 33 points on a Smith dunk to make it 68-35 with 16:04 to play in the game. Alvernia (10-12, 5-8) hit some shots through the middle portion of the half to cut the Lions' lead to 20 points at 76-56 with 8:06 to play, but it never got any closer.
Lindsay now has 69 three pointers this season, moving him into fourth place on the school's single-season list in that category. Three players are tied for first with 72 makes: Pat Pruitt (1989-90), Zac Shaeffer (2009-10) and Matt Ashcroft (2009-10).
Lindsay tied several Albright players with six three pointers in a game, moving into seventh place in the Albright single-game record books.
Omari Ringgold was the last Lion to make at least six in a game when he hit seven against Hood last season.
Smith recorded another double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Rowles had 16 points and seven rebounds.
Jared Rappoport finished with 10 points.
Albright continues MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday at Messiah. The teams played a triple-overtime classic at Bollman Center last month. The Falcons won, 101-100.
