READING, Pa. – The Albright men's lacrosse team let a late two-goal lead slip away as they dropped a 9-8 contest to McDaniel on Saturday afternoon in non-conference play at Shirk Stadium.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 1-4 overall after losing their third-straight game. Meanwhile, the Green Terror improves to 4-2 overall with their third-straight win.
The Green Terror struck quickly with a goal at the 13:33-mark of the first quarter to take a 1-0 lead, but after that it was all Lions in the first quarter. Freshman
Shane Early scored the first goal of his collegiate career off a pass from classmate
Brandon Hall at the 9:07-mark which began a stretch of five straight Lions goals. Freshman
James Gorman gave the Lions the lead at the 6:26-mark of the first quarter, and Hall quickly extended the lead just 44 seconds later to make it 3-1. Albright was then assessed a pair of penalties after the goal, but senior
JJ Boliaux forced a turnover and would take it himself for his first goal of the season to make it 4-1 Lions at the 4:43-mark. Freshman
Ethan Gain would cap the five-goal run at the 1:39-mark off a pass from Gorman to make it 5-1 after the first quarter. Albright still held control of the game until the final six minutes of the second quarter when the Green Terror quickly ripped off four straight goals to leave the game tied at five at the half.
Albright started the second half strong by taking back the lead with a goal from freshman
Cole Hinds at the 12:54-mark of the third quarter. The Lions then took a multiple-goal lead at 7-5 with 2:28 left in the third quarter off Gain's second goal of the game. Much like the second quarter, the Green Terror started slow to begin the fourth quarter before putting together a game-winning four goal run with the last goal coming with 2:42 left. The Lions made it interesting by cutting the lead down to one with a goal from sophomore
Jack Bobel at the 1:12-mark of the fourth quarter, but would lose the faceoff and not regain possession of the ball for the rest of the game.
McDaniel held a 41-26 shot advantage behind out-shooting the Lions 15-5 in the final quarter. They also held a 22-16 advantage in shots on goal, and a 32-27 advantage in ground balls. Meanwhile, the Lions held a 12-7 advantage in faceoff wins. Gain tallied three points behind two goals and one assist, while Gorman and Hall each posted two points. Lions goalkeeper
Ryan Aler suffered the tough loss despite playing well in net with 13 saves. Green Terror goalkeeper Jakob Katzen made eight saves in net to grab the win.
The Lions will return to action on Wednesday, March 14
