Baseball Defeats Eastern Nazarene, 6-2

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Joe Suppa went 3-for-3 with a walk and a pair of runs scored as the Albright baseball team defeated Eastern Nazarene, 6-2, on Monday. With the win, the Lions moved to 4-0 on the young season. Eastern Nazarene fell to 8-3.

Eastern Nazarene took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning thanks to an unearned run off starting pitcher Shaun O'Reilly. That would be the only run O'Reilly would allow in six innings. He allowed five hits and five walks while striking out three hitters. O'Reilly earned the victory to move to 2-0 on the young season.

After Eastern Nazarene left the bases loaded without scoring in the top of the fifth, the Lions came back in the bottom half to take the lead. Albright started the frame with three straight doubles. Suppa led off with a double to center, and Brandon Daubert chased him home to tie the score with a double of his own. Zach Krause drove home Daubert with a double to center to make it 2-1 Albright, and the Lions weren't finished.

Austin Roth reached on an infield single to put runners at the corners. After two outs, Jeff Yordy reached on an infield single of his own to bring home Krause to make it 3-1.

Albright added two more runs in the sixth. Logan Adams led off with a double, and Suppa followed with a walk. Daubert attempted to move the runners with a bunt, but he ended up reaching on an error. Adams scored on the misplay to make it 4-1 Albright. The Lions made it 5-1 when Krause hit into a double play, scoring Suppa from third base.

Tanner Brescancine drove in another insurance run for the Lions in the seventh inning. He drove home Jimmie Gentry to make it 6-1. Gentry singled earlier in the frame.

Eastern Nazarene scored a run in the top of the ninth while leaving two men on base, but the tying run never came to the plate.

Suppa was the only Albright player with multiple hits, but seven other Lions each had a base hit.

The Lions return to action with a doubleheader against Kenyon on Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m.
