MINNEOLA, Fla. – The Albright softball team split its two games on Tuesday in spring break action. The Lions lost its opener to Wisconsin-Stout, 10-2, before defeating Franklin & Marshall, 6-5.
In the win, the Lions (2-2) used a five-run inning to erase a 5-0 deficit to the Diplomats. Franklin & Marshall opened the game with a four-run first inning before adding another run in the top of the second.
Trailing 5-0, the Lions tied the score in the third inning. Albright scored five runs on seven hits in the frame.
Kelly Cembrale singled to lead it off, and
Stephany Courtney doubled her home.
Stephanie Pomante had a run-scoring single, and
Kaitlyn Chell doubled home two runs.
Jordan Chell rounded out the scoring in the inning with an RBI single.
The score stayed tied until the Lions scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth.
Jordan Chell led off by reaching on an error, and she later scored to make it 6-5 Albright.
In the first game, the Lions started out strong with a double from
Brooke Yerger. She scored in the inning to give the Lions a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Wisconsin-Stout brought the bats, however, scoring multiple runs in each of the first three innings. Trailing 5-1 in the top of the third, the Lions made it 5-2 when
Morgan Thayer crossed home. Wisconsin-Stout came back with four runs in the bottom of the third inning to make it 9-2. The mercy rule was invoked with the team's 10th run in the bottom of the fifth.
Albright continues its week in Florida with two games on Wednesday. The Lions face Olivet at 9 a.m. and Lancaster Bible at 2 p.m.
