Men's Lacrosse Suffers 7-3 Loss to Delaware Valley

READING, Pa. – Battling snowy conditions, the Albright men's lacrosse team was unable to overcome an early deficit as they lost 7-3 to Delaware Valley on Tuesday afternoon at Shirk Stadium in non-conference play.

With the loss, the Lions drop to 2-5 overall as they wrapped up non-conference play. Meanwhile, the Aggies improved to 2-4 after starting the season 0-4.

The Lions never got their offense going in the wintry conditions as turnovers and failed clears began to rack up. The Aggies opened the scoring at the 11:14-mark of the first quarter, and would add to its lead just over two minutes later to take a 2-0 on a man-down goal. Delaware Valley outshot the Lions 12-5 in the first quarter, and extended its lead less than a minute into the second quarter to 3-0. Albright finally got on the board at the 9:02-mark of the second quarter with a man-up goal from freshman Carson Babcock to cut the Aggie lead to 3-1. The Lions continued momentum with a goal from sophomore Jack Bobel with 1:02 before halftime to make it a 3-2 game.

However, the Lions were unable to sustain momentum as the Aggies added back-to-back goals in the third quarter to make it a 5-2 game. The score remained the same before Delaware Valley posted a goal with 6:27 left in the game to make it 6-2. Albright had some hope restored after senior Nick Tonno snuck a ball by the Aggie goalkeeper at the 4:25-mark to make it 6-3, but the Aggies concluded the scoring with a goal at the 2:31-mark.

The Aggies held a 29-24 shot advantage for the game, and a slight 14-13 advantage in shots on goal. Albright held a 41-35 advantage in ground balls, but had 25 turnovers and went 10-of-19 on clear attempts. The Lions also picked up 9 of 14 wins in the faceoff circle. Bobel, Tonno, and Babcock each posted goals, while freshman James Gorman picked up an assist on Babcock's goal. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Aler made seven saves in the loss, and Delaware Valley goalkeeper Nic Brown made 10 saves to earn the win.

Albright will return to action on Wednesday, March 28th as it will open MAC Commonwealth play at Hood at 4 p.m.
