Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

WLAX Suffers Double Overtime Loss to Stockton, 11-10

POMONA, N.J. – The Albright Lions women's lacrosse team battled back from a late three goal deficit before suffering an 11-10 heartbreaking loss in double overtime to Stockton on Saturday afternoon in non-conference play.

With the loss, the Lions drop to 2-2 overall in the early portion of the non-conference season. This was the Lions first overtime game since they defeated Lebanon Valley in three overtimes last season on April 8th, and first overtime loss since April 27, 2016 against the Dutchmen as well. Meanwhile, the Ospreys improve to 2-0 after having their regular season start earlier this week.

The Lions started off strong by scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes of the game to take a 2-0 lead at the 20:44-mark of the first half. Junior Sophie Bass got the Lions on the board first at the 22:21-mark before senior Corinne Donohue followed just under two minutes later for the second goal of the early portion of the game off a free position shot. The Ospreys then came alive with six unanswered goals over an 11 minute span to take a 6-2 lead over the Lions with 9:44 left in the first half. Needing a spark, Albright got one in a big way in the final minutes as sophomore Kelly Baumann scored three goals in just 53 seconds to make it a one goal game at halftime.

Stockton re-extended its lead to open the second half with back-to-back goals in the first eight minutes to take an 8-5 lead over the Lions. Freshman Tristin Konen struck back just 17 seconds later with a goal to make it 8-6, and Donohue followed two minutes later to bring the game down to a one goal deficit at the 20:43-mark of the second half. Stockton would then strike back yet again with back-to-back goals to extend its lead back to three at 10-7 with 17:24 left in the half. Albright regained momentum with goals from Konen and Donohue to make it 10-9 with 14:42 remaining in the second half, and got the clutch game-tying goal at the 5:30-mark from Baumann which would eventually force overtime. In the first overtime, Baumann registered the only shot between both teams that was saved by the Ospreys goalkeeper. Stockton then used a draw control win to open the second overtime, and would strike on its only possession with 1:52 left to win the game.

The Ospreys held 31-29 shot advantage for the game, and each teams registered 22 shots on goal. Both teams also tallied 19 ground balls, and the Lions forced 21 Stockton turnovers. The Ospreys also held a sizable 16-8 advantage in draw control wins. Baumann led the Lions with four goals on the afternoon, and Donohue posted three goals to move into a tie for the team lead with 13 points with Bass. Freshman goalkeeper Terae Mason made 11 saves in the loss, while Ospreys goalkeeper Stevie Ader made 12 saves to earn the win.

Albright will return to action on Thursday, March 8th when they will host McDaniel in non-conference play for a 5 p.m. start.
