Lycoming Defeats Men's Lacrosse, 10-6

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's lacrosse team suffered a tough 10-6 loss on the road to Lycoming on Wednesday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth play.

With the loss, the Lions drop to 4-8 overall with a 2-3 record in MAC Commonwealth play as they continue to pursue a berth in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament. Meanwhile, the Warriors improve to 7-6 overall with a 3-3 record in conference play.

The Warriors opened the scoring just over a minute and a half into the game to take an early 1-0 lead, and it stayed that way until senior Nick Tonno tied the game at one at 5:56-mark of the first quarter. Freshman Ethan Gain then gave the Lions the lead over a minute later at the 4:45-mark on a pass from classmate Carson Babcock. Lycoming then closed out the first quarter by cashing in on a man-up opportunity with 17 seconds left to tie the game at two. The Warriors took the lead back at the 13:32-mark before Tonno responded at the 8:27-mark to tie the game at three. Unfortunately for the Lions, the tide completely turned at the end of the second quarter when the Warriors tallied a pair of goals within a 1:09 of each other to take a 5-3 lead into halftime. From there, Lycoming continued its momentum in the second half by scoring three more unanswered goals to take its largest lead of the game at 8-3 with 7:22 left in the third quarter.

The Lions did begin to fight back as Tonno completed his hat trick at the 1:31-mark to make it an 8-4 game. Sophomore Jack Bobel then scored at the 13:34-mark of the fourth quarter to cut the Warriors lead down to 8-5, but that was as close as the Lions would get for the rest of the game. Lycoming would end the Lions rally at the 10:58-mark with a goal to make it 9-5. Gain finished the Lions scoring with his second goal of the game at the 5:24-mark before the Warriors added one more goal to finish their win off with nine seconds left in the game.

Despite the loss, the Lions outshot the Warriors 40-35 overall, and 22-19 for shots on goal. Albright also held a 29-26 advantage in ground balls, and senior James Lettieri went 11-of-19 in the faceoff circle. Tonno led the Lions with three goals, while Gain added two goals and Bobel posted two points. Freshman Brandon Hall posted two assists, and freshman James Gorman, Babcock, and Cole Hinds all posted an assist. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Aler made nine saves in the loss, while Warriors goalkeeper Michael Tenant played a big role for Lycoming as he made 16 saves.

Albright will return to action on Saturday, April 21st when they will host Messiah at 1 p.m. in MAC Commonwealth play.
