READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions baseball team mounted a late charge in the final two innings, but still suffered a 10-7 loss to Ramapo in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Kelchner Field.

With the loss, the Lions overall record drops to 11-17 overall, while the Roadrunners of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) improve to 25-11 overall.

The game started out well for the Lions as sophomore
Logan Pennypacker led off the game with a walk before promptly stealing second and third base. Junior
Jeff Yordy then gave the Lions an early 1-0 lead on an RBI double to center field that bounced off the wall. A wild pitch moved Yordy to third base in the next at-bat, and senior
Noah Beebe would drive him home on a RBI groundout. The Roadrunners tied the game in the top of the second on a double down the left field line with two outs, and took a 4-2 lead in the top of the third with a three-run home run that also came with two outs. Ramapo would extend its lead to 7-2 in the top of the fourth on three hits and one error. A pair of singles opened the fourth before a throwing error on a bunt from third base allowed the lead runner to come around and score from second. A bunt single drove home the second one, while a sacrifice bunt in the next at-bat pushed across the third run of the inning. Following a scoreless fifth inning from both teams, the Roadrunners belted back-to-back home runs with two outs in the top of the sixth to take a commanding 10-2 lead. The first home run was a two-run shot before the second one being just a solo home run.

The score stayed the same until the bottom of the eighth when the Lions scored two runs on a double from Beebe with two outs. Sophomore Jimmy Gentry hit a two out single to start the threat, and advanced to third on a double from classmate
Logan Adams. Beebe then brought them both home on his double that bounced off the left field wall. In the bottom of the ninth, a three-run two out double from Gentry cleared the bases to make it a 10-7 game. With the potential tying run on deck, Adams ended the game in the next at-bat with a fly out to shortstop.

Gentry led the Lions by going 2-of-4 from the plate with three RBIs and one run scored. Junior
Jack Shevlin went 2-of-4 from the plate with a run scored, and Beebe tallied three RBIs as well. Senior starting pitcher
Zach Massari suffered the loss in his second start of the season after allowing seven earned runs on eight hits with one walk in three innings of work. Senior
Zach Krause relieved Massari, and allowed three earned runs on four hits with one strikeout in 2.2 innings. Freshman
Nick Cummings and junior
Phil Staehle each pitched scoreless relief outings with Staehle picking up three strikeouts in two perfect innings. Ramapo starting pitcher Nick Recarte earned the win after allowing two earned runs on two hits, while striking out eight and walking four in six innings. Tyler Lombardo worked his way into a save situation after throwing the last three innings and allowing the Lions to pull within three to earn a save.

The Lions will return to action tomorrow, April 25
th when they will travel to face Susquehanna at 4 p.m. in non-conference play.
