FREDERICK, Md. – The Albright baseball team lost to Hood, 9-5, in the first game of the teams' MAC Commonwealth series on Friday afternoon.
Jeff Yordy tripled and homered to lead the Lions' offense.
Yordy got the offense started with neither of those hits in the top of the first inning, but rather with a productive out.
Logan Adams led off the game with a double, and he moved to third on a wild pitch. After an out, Yordy grounded out to third to score Adams to make it 1-0 Albright.
Hood opened the game up in its favor in the bottom of the second, though. The Blazers scored six runs on eight hits. Hood also had each of its first five batters of the inning reach with hits.
Albright responded with two runs in the top of the third to cut the lead to 6-3.
Zach Krause led off the frame with a walk, and he scored on Yordy's homer to left with two away. Hood added a run with a solo homer in the bottom of the third, and the Blazers scored two more on four hits in the bottom of the fourth to make it 9-3.
Albright cut into the lead with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth, Albright loaded the bases with a walk to
Noah Beebe, a
Joe Suppa single and a
Logan Pennypacker hit-by-pitch.
Jack Shevlin followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing home Beebe to make it 9-4.
In the seventh, Yordy tripled and scored on Beebe's fly ball to right field to make it 9-5. The Lions went down 1-2-3 in the eighth and ninth innings, however, to squelch any comeback attempt.
Tanner Brescancine also doubled for the Lions.
Will Tokarski pitched 3.1 innings of one-hit ball out of the pen for the Lions, and
Ryan Kalinich worked a perfect eight inning.
Albright and Hood conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon at Kelchner Field.
