YORK, Pa. – Despite a valiant effort, the Albright field hockey team suffered a 1-0 loss on the road to York (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-4 overall after nearly avenging a 7-1 loss to the Spartans from a year ago. Meanwhile, York improves to 2-3 overall and snap a two-game losing streak.
Defense was the name of game in the first half as the Lions limited York to two shots in the first 30 minutes. However, a minute later the Spartans broke the scoreless tie with a goal off a rebound to take a 1-0 lead. In the second half, the Spartans controlled play for the start of the second half as they pounced with four shots and four penalty opportunities in the first 10 minutes. The Lions defense was able to keep the Spartans off the board by forcing tough shots and multiple blocked shots as well. Albright finally registered its first shot in the 59
th minute of the game when sophomore
Jennifer Crumling had a shot blocked. The shot began a late charge from the Lions that saw them register four shots in the last 10 minutes. Unfortunately for the Lions, none made it past the York goalkeeper. Senior
Lindsey Hecker had the Lions best chance with just over a minute left in the game with a shot that was saved by the Spartan goalkeeper.
The Spartans outshot the Lions 13-4 overall and 5-1 in shots on goal. York also had 10-7 advantage in penalty corners. Senior goalkeeper
Aileen Taylor suffered the loss after making four saves and allowing one goal in seventy minutes. Spartan goalkeeper Sam Keating tallied the win after making one save in 70 minutes of action.
Albright will return to action on Thursday, September 20
th when they will host Immaculata in non-conference action at 4 p.m.
