Field Hockey Shut Down by Arcadia, 2-0

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Albright Lions field hockey team was shutout on the road by Arcadia by a score of 2-0 in the MAC Commonwealth opener on Saturday afternoon.
 
With the loss, the Lions drop to 3-5 on the season and 0-1 in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Knights improve to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in MAC Commonwealth play.
 
Arcadia immediately put pressure on the Lions zone and got two penalty corners early The Knights made the most of the second penalty corner and scored the first goal of the game in the third minute to go up 1-0. Defense then became the name of the game for the rest of the first half as the Lions were able to keep the Knights off the board for the rest of the half despite tallying 12 shots. Albright posted four shots in the first half with three of them being blocked in front of the net.
 
The Lions started out with momentum in the second half as senior Annette Helmandollar tallied two early shots with one being saved by the Knights goalkeeper. The teams traded chances as the second half went along, but the game remained at 1-0. Arcadia would put the game away with a goal in the 64th minute following a penalty corner. Albright had one last chance in the 68th minute to get on the board, but a shot from sophomore Marley Berger was blocked.
 
Arcadia held an 18-10 advantage in shots and an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Knights also held a 13-5 advantage in penalty corners as well. Senior goalkeeper Aileen Taylor suffered the loss after making six saves in the full 70 minutes. Knights goalkeeper Ashton Evans earned the shutout win after, making two saves in the entire 70 minutes.
 
The Lions will return to action on Wednesday, September 26th when they travel to face Susquehanna in non-conference plat at 7 p.m.
