READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's tennis team (0-1) dropped their season opener to the Penn State Harrisburg Nittany Lions (1-1) by a score of 6-1 on Thursday afternoon at the Albright Tennis Courts.
Penn State Harrisburg captured all three of the doubles points to take an early 3-0 lead in the match. At the first doubles spot, the Nittany Lions' Sydney Nye/Elysse Mellott defeated the Lions' duo of freshman Mackenzie Beaves and junior
Mara Trifoi by virtue of opponent retirement. Mikiya Binion and Abigail Clifford picked up an 8-2 win over Albright sophomore
Victoria Metzinger and freshman
Shelby Woodard in No. 2 doubles action. The Nittany Lions captured the third and final doubles point with a victory by default at the third spot.
Trifoi notched a win for the Lions in No. 1 singles action with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Nye. Torre topped Beaves via opponent retirement in second singles action. The third and fourth singles matches went unfinished between Woodard and the Nittany Lions' Claire Hackenberg along with the match between Metzinger and Mellott. Penn State Harrisburg recorded victories by default at the final two singles spots.
Albright is back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 10 when they host Keystone at 3 p.m.
